ONTARIO, CA – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded GS Foods Group and its operating companies Gold Star Foods and Good Source Solutions a multi- state contract to support communities across the country through the USDA Farmers to Families Food Box Program. The nine-state extension of this critical program will enable the delivery of protein products to families in Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, Virginia and Wyoming.
“We are proud to partner with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Sec. Sonny Perdue to provide meals to millions of children and families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the last four months, GS Foods Group and our School Nutrition Program partners have served over 300 million school meals nationally. As this emergency continues, providing food as part of the Farmer to Families Program is a natural evolution to rapidly address the challenges head on,” said Sean Leer, CEO of GS Foods Group.
As the nation’s leading school nutrition provider – Gold Star is uniquely positioned to continue collaborating with the Department. Large-scale operations, deep supplier relationships and expertise in the nutrition supply chain allow Gold Star to distribute food efficiently and safely during times of crisis. Since the onset of the pandemic, Gold Star, in partnership with Don Lee Farms & the LA Regional Food Bank, has worked with USDA to deliver over 10 million pounds of food to 230 individual agencies in Southern California through Farmers to Families.
“In the United States, we know that more than 30 million children rely on school meals as their daily source of needed nutrition. We are grateful for the opportunity to expand our distribution beyond California to reach underserved communities across the nation through the extension of this critical program,” said Leer.
